Trademark Partner, Luna Samman, will speak on the “Fame or Foe? Risks for Traditional and Non-Traditional Trademarks” panel at the MARQUES 2026 Annual Conference in Lisbon, Portugal.
The panel will explore the fine line between trademark fame and genericism, including how a brand’s success can ultimately undermine trademark protection. Panelists will examine the risks associated with traditional and non-traditional trademarks and discuss when widespread consumer recognition may contribute to a mark becoming generic. The discussion will also highlight strategies brands have successfully employed to preserve trademark distinctiveness and avoid becoming generic terms for products. Luna will join fellow speaker Catrin Turner of Jellycat Ltd and session chair Bahia Alyafi of Alyafi IP Group for this discussion.
